Sermon: Tears of Hope
By: Pastor Ben Hulst
Psalm 126: The path to lasting hope is not paved with ease and comfort. Our decaying world cannot offer any lasting hope. But, the path to hope is marked by tears, by times of hardship that bring us to the God of everlasting hope. Through Christ, we are transformed and our tears can be the water for new life and renewed hope for us and for others.

Nov 7, 2021Sermon: A Quieted SoulBy: Pastor Ben HulstPsalm 131: A quieted soul is a contented soul. It is a soul that is within itself rather than flitting and fluttering around trying to find fulfillment in a decaying world. If we hope in the Lord, we are content in our place, our person, and our hope that is through Jesus Christ. He gives us peace, confidence, and contentment.

Oct 31, 2021Sermon: Glory and the ThornBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 12.1-10: The Lord tells Paul in his weakness, "My grace is sufficient for you." Paul teaches us the value of true words and true living versus experiential episodes of glory that can lead to conceit and also can be manipulated. Authenticity is based on true words and faithful obedience.

Oct 24, 2021Sermon: Strange BoastingBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 11.16-33: Paul plays the fool to counter the foolishness of his opponents and those desiring to follow them. Nothing less than the heart of the gospel is at stake. In playing the fool, he highlights how the world has gone mad. In his willing to be a fool for Christ, he seeks to realign the world of the Corinthian church to sanity - which is when Christ occupies the center of our lives and our churches.

Oct 17, 2021Sermon: Resisting the Scrumptious LieBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 11.1-15: Paul seeks to defend himself against the false teaching of his opponents. His purpose is to uphold the gospel. The temptation he fights is for us to seek status more than Christ. This temptation is constant in our world, but the true gospel guides us to proper humility and true trust in Christ.

Oct 10, 2021Sermon: Waging Divine WeaponsBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 10: We are reminded of the war that the Christian is involved in, which is a spiritual battle against deceit and evil. The battle is ultimately about the exalting the name of Jesus Christ above all things. Paul guides us to think about how we wage that war and with what weapons we fight.

Oct 3, 2021Sermon: Do Not FretBy: Pastor Ben HulstPsalm 37.1-11: Do not fret, the psalmist tells us. In times when it seems like evil is making its way, we as Christians must not in fear or envy operate in the same way. We rely upon the Lord and maintain his way of humility as we engage the things of this world.

Sep 26, 2021Sermon: God-Subsidized FarmingBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 9.6-15: As the apostle Paul encourages us to generous living, we are reminded that God works through our obedience to produce a bountiful harvest of righteousness. We first must be reminded of God's generous nature toward us and trust that our generous acts toward others will contribute to God's grand plan of his good kingdom.
- Sep 19, 2021Sermon: A Generous Community
Sep 19, 2021Sermon: A Generous CommunityBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 8: Giving generously is a key part of our Christian discipleship. This is formed in us through recognizing and embracing the spiritual riches we've been given in Christ. With this as a foundation, as those who have been made rich in Christ, we then give generously to those that are in need. Generosity is not first of all a money issue, but a heart issue.
- Sep 12, 2021Sermon: True Joy Deeper than Therapeutic Happiness
Sep 12, 2021Sermon: True Joy Deeper than Therapeutic HappinessBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 7.2-16: Paul shows us how to live in the spiritual tension of sin and the pursuit of righteousness. We cannot find peace through a therapeutic glossing over of sin, both individual and societal. We must face sin in ourselves and in the world. But we confront it in ourselves through our salvation in Christ. And we confront it in the world through the ethic of love, as we seek to model God's righteousness and teach it. Our world seeks comfort by denial of sin. We seek comfort by addressing it through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
