Sermon: The King at the Mountain
By: Pastor Ben Hulst
Exodus 19: The exodus transition of the Israelites is from subservience to one king to subservience to another, that being God. This is basic to our human experience. We are never fully self-determined, but instead putting ourselves under different kings/gods. God calls us to be under his care and rule because it brings us down the path of life, instead of down the path of death.

May 22, 2022Sermon: The Hands that Secure Our VictoryBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 17.8-16: As we follow Israel on their wilderness journey, we've watched them encounter the hardship of thirst, of hunger, and now the threat of enemies. This is wilderness life. It is our life as we journey toward the promised kingdom. The enemy is real - we must not be naive. We must be ready to hear God's call to engage with the gospel of grace, truth, and love.

May 15, 2022Sermon: God’s Presence in Our ThirstBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 17.1-7: The wilderness is a place of thirst. But to understand this passage, we must see the interaction between physical thirst and soul thirst. At the depth of our soul, we are thirsty for the presence of God - of connection to our Creator. In response, God stands among them, giving them water for their body and water for their soul.

May 1, 2022Sermon: Daily TrustBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 16: As Israel is led into the wilderness, the fight begins against the slavery from within. The slavery from without has been dealt with in God's triumph over Pharaoh. Now, the battle for the souls of Israel begins. This begins with learning to trust God and his daily provision. Like Israel, this is our battle too. Daily trust in the Lord and his provision in Jesus Christ.

Apr 24, 2022Sermon: Stepping ForwardBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 15.19-27: After the exuberance of redemption, the wilderness looms. Israel is brought to the path of discipleship, of the need to trust in the mercy and grace of God. It is in him that life in all its challenge is brought from bitterness to sweetness. For us as Christians, it is Christ who transforms us to walk with confidence and the sure hope of an eternal oasis of rest.

Apr 17, 2022Sermon: Encountering the Waters of LifeBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 13.17-14.31: The climactic story of the Exodus narrative is the Red Sea crossing - the Old Testament's resurrection story. As Israel goes through the waters of death to life on the other side, so to do we in Christ as he conquers the grave. Easter is a day of victory, but it is a victory that goes through death. Praise God that Jesus has gone before and leads us down the path to victory.

Apr 10, 2022Sermon: Encountering the DarknessBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 10.21-29: God brings the darkness to show Pharaoh he cannot control the creational order. He is not the king. The darkness threatens us all, so we need a true king to look to - who can overcome the darkness. We find it in Jesus, the one who processed with cries of "Hosanna." He went through the darkness and rose in light, so that his light will forever be with us.
