By: Pastor Ben Hulst
Exodus 9.13-35: The Lord brings chaotic destruction to show Pharaoh he cannot control what he desires to control. In this, he draws his people to his grace and mercy, working to prompt in them a trust that he is fighting for them and will overcome all that threatens. In Christ, we have this peace that he will hold the destructive chaos at bay and lead us to hope and joy and everlasting life.

Mar 27, 2022Sermon: The Magicians’ LimitBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 8.16-19: In this third plague, a detail noted is the Egyptian magicians couldn't match what Aaron and Moses do. They are undone. All their secret arts are shown as a fraud, empty, and lacking power. But the name of the LORD is powerful and knowing it brings life and hope over death. This is the power of Jesus' name that has been given to us. It protects us from the destructive darkness and gives us the hope of everlasting life.

Mar 20, 2022Sermon: The Sweet Aroma of Abundant LifeBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 7.25-8.15: With the plague of frogs, God is challenging the ideas the Egyptians have regarding the power of life and protection. In bringing the frogs, God is overwhelming the powers of the Egyptian gods and guiding them to see the stench of their idolatry.

Mar 13, 2022Sermon: There Will Be BloodBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 7.14-24: Through this plague, God is seeking to show who is really in charge and provide a warning to Pharaoh of the chaos he is bringing. The presence of blood speaks to the need to repent and signals to the Israelites who is the true God to revere. Not the gods of Egypt, but the God of Israel, who will save them.
- Mar 6, 2022Sermon: Purifying Fire
Mar 6, 2022Sermon: Purifying FireBy: Pastor Ben HulstExodus 3.1-22: Fire is both a destructive force and a purifying force. What effect it has depends on how one is connected to the pure source of life. Moses discovers, through the burning bush, the purposes of the God of life, that seeks not to destroy him, but purify him and call him to a higher purpose. This is the goal of God in our own life. We are the bush, that should burn, but doesn't. Not because of our strength, but the merciful fire of God that purifies us, but doesn't destroy us. This is the grace we find strength in.

Feb 27, 2022Sermon: Wise Living in Foolish & Evil DaysBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The New SelfEphesians 5.14-20: As people given the new self in Christ, we are called to wise and purposeful living. In the evil days that are upon us, through the Spirit we work to "buy the time" for eternal purposes. We must reject the numbing reality of our dying world and engage for the world that is coming, the eternal kingdom of God. With hope, we praise, thank, and worship together to encourage each other in the victory we have.

Feb 20, 2022Sermon: Exposing What Lurks in the ShadowsBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The New SelfEphesians 5.6-14: In Christ, we are light, having been saved from darkness. As we live our lives, we model Christ in his goodness, righteousness, and truth. In living this way, we work also to expose the darkness so that the glory of Christ might be ascendant and to help free people from the influence of the destructive darkness. It calls us to be people of courage, conviction, and patient grace. We remember, the darkness has not, and will never, overcome the light. Come Lord Jesus!
- Feb 13, 2022Sermon: An Inheritance Above the Desires of this World
Feb 13, 2022Sermon: An Inheritance Above the Desires of this WorldBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The New SelfEphesians 5.3-5: We must see the world from a spiritual perspective, and especially the reality of words. Jesus is the Word made flesh and it is the Word and his words that create life and sustain it. To speak false words, especially the words of idolatrous patterns bring destructive reality. So, as we refuse to name the patterns of destruction, we are forming our hearts and communities to be formed by Christ, the divine Word. And this is done by words of thankfulness that orient us to the inheritance of the Kingdom of Christ that we've been gifted.
- Feb 6, 2022Sermon: Rejecting the Bitter Fruit
Feb 6, 2022Sermon: Rejecting the Bitter FruitBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The New SelfEphesians 4.30-5.2: One of the most destructive powers in life is bitterness of soul. If not resolved or worked through, it can lead to great destruction within families, communities, nations, and oneself. Paul urges the Christian to rid oneself of it and the ugly fruits that come from bitterness. This takes soul inspection and a reliance on the words from above: forgiveness, grace, and the Word made flesh, Jesus Christ.

Jan 30, 2022Sermon: A Constructive Heart & MouthBy: Pastor Ben HulstSeries: The New SelfEphesians 4.29-32: Through the Word made flesh, the world and life is built up for God's glory. As we are those filled with the Word, Christ, we are called to have speech that builds up life and doesn't bring the devil's destruction and decay. In our speech, we participate with Christ in bringing the world to a greater glory, of it being built up in Christ for the glory of the Father.
