Oct 24, 2021Sermon: Strange BoastingBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 11.16-33: Paul plays the fool to counter the foolishness of his opponents and those desiring to follow them. Nothing less than the heart of the gospel is at stake. In playing the fool, he highlights how the world has gone mad. In his willing to be a fool for Christ, he seeks to realign the world of the Corinthian church to sanity - which is when Christ occupies the center of our lives and our churches.

Oct 17, 2021Sermon: Resisting the Scrumptious LieBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 11.1-15: Paul seeks to defend himself against the false teaching of his opponents. His purpose is to uphold the gospel. The temptation he fights is for us to seek status more than Christ. This temptation is constant in our world, but the true gospel guides us to proper humility and true trust in Christ.

Oct 10, 2021Sermon: Waging Divine WeaponsBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 10: We are reminded of the war that the Christian is involved in, which is a spiritual battle against deceit and evil. The battle is ultimately about the exalting the name of Jesus Christ above all things. Paul guides us to think about how we wage that war and with what weapons we fight.

Sep 26, 2021Sermon: God-Subsidized FarmingBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 9.6-15: As the apostle Paul encourages us to generous living, we are reminded that God works through our obedience to produce a bountiful harvest of righteousness. We first must be reminded of God's generous nature toward us and trust that our generous acts toward others will contribute to God's grand plan of his good kingdom.
- Sep 19, 2021Sermon: A Generous Community
Sep 19, 2021Sermon: A Generous CommunityBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 8: Giving generously is a key part of our Christian discipleship. This is formed in us through recognizing and embracing the spiritual riches we've been given in Christ. With this as a foundation, as those who have been made rich in Christ, we then give generously to those that are in need. Generosity is not first of all a money issue, but a heart issue.
- Sep 12, 2021Sermon: True Joy Deeper than Therapeutic Happiness
Sep 12, 2021Sermon: True Joy Deeper than Therapeutic HappinessBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 7.2-16: Paul shows us how to live in the spiritual tension of sin and the pursuit of righteousness. We cannot find peace through a therapeutic glossing over of sin, both individual and societal. We must face sin in ourselves and in the world. But we confront it in ourselves through our salvation in Christ. And we confront it in the world through the ethic of love, as we seek to model God's righteousness and teach it. Our world seeks comfort by denial of sin. We seek comfort by addressing it through the cross and resurrection of Jesus Christ.
- Sep 5, 2021Sermon: Set Apart
Sep 5, 2021Sermon: Set ApartBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 6.14-7.1: In response to the gift of grace through Jesus Christ, we are called to holiness. This calls for a separation from culture in terms of purposes and aims. In Corinth, Paul was confronting a situation similar to our own, where the temptations toward sexual immorality and idolatry were abundant. Paul calls us to not partner with the darkness, but live in the light of Jesus Christ and his way. Sanctity is the call and goal of the church that we might represent Jesus Christ well.

Aug 29, 2021Sermon: Authentic Living in an Inauthentic WorldBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 6.3-13: Paul models for us a life that is authentic and whole. He does not seek to make himself seem better, but fully puts himself out there in his weaknesses. He lives his life out of the fulcrum of Jesus' death and resurrection. It is this path that guides us to unity in our soul, a unity of purpose toward serving Christ and seeking his glory.

Aug 22, 2021Sermon: New Creations in a Decaying WorldBy: Pastor Ben HulstII Corinthians 5.14-21: The only cure for the restlessness of our souls is being found as new creations through Jesus Christ. All our strivings to secure our inner stability will be futile unless Christ cleanses and restores our core. In him, we are new creations and brought to rest.
