Hebrews 2.5-9: Though we as mankind continue to try to map ourselves based on distant lights and far away knowledge, the Bible tells of the true light coming close in Jesus Christ who gives us the deep knowledge and light that we seek. It is him that all the lights and angels point to, his truth, his power, his love, his gospel, his kingdom. As the angels long to look into these things, may we not tire of knowing more deeply the gospel of Jesus Christ.

Hebrews 2.1-4: Key to the Christian life is attention to the word. Losing attention to the world brings the flood of the deceiving world to begin to rise upon us. It is the word that pushed back the waters of death and thus attention to the word of the Son keeps the waters of this world at bay.

Hebrews 1.1-4: In the midst of a world threatened by liquefaction of values and culture, we look to the one who by his powerful world holds the world together. This is the Son, the Word made flesh in Jesus Christ. This sermon points to him and calls us to fall at his feet to seek the healing through his word.

Exodus 19: The exodus transition of the Israelites is from subservience to one king to subservience to another, that being God. This is basic to our human experience. We are never fully self-determined, but instead putting ourselves under different kings/gods. God calls us to be under his care and rule because it brings us down the path of life, instead of down the path of death.

Exodus 17.1-7: The wilderness is a place of thirst. But to understand this passage, we must see the interaction between physical thirst and soul thirst. At the depth of our soul, we are thirsty for the presence of God - of connection to our Creator. In response, God stands among them, giving them water for their body and water for their soul.
